The 2018 DSDW Team is gearing up for their exciting competition events! For two straight weekends (March 16-18 and March 23-25), these extremely gifted girls will be showcasing their well-crafted routines as hundreds of kids compete for dancing’s highly coveted awards. The Debra Sparks Dance Works has placed extremely well in competition history, and this year’s team is certainly ready to “represent” in customary fashion!
The first weekend, known as World Class Talent, is in the Baltimore, MD suburbs, and will be packed with about 70 separate dances starting at 9:30 am on Saturday, March 17. Two consecutive 12-hour days of dancing will ultimately culminate in an award ceremony, beginning at 9:00 pm on Sunday.
Dances range from large groups to small groups, trios, duos and solos. Genres represented will cover a wide range, from Ballet and Pointe to Jazz Dance, Lyrical Dance, Contemporary Dance, Tap Dance, Musical Theater and Acrobatics. World Class Talent is a high-end dance competition unlike no other in the industry, showcasing top-notch adjudicators with knowledge of all genres, and also offering scholarship opportunities for continued education.
The girls are excited to show off their colorful and creative costumes, and DSDW dancewear items will be gracing the hallways of the Chesapeake Arts Center for what proves to be a fabulous weekend!
The second weekend competition, entitled Inferno Dance, is in King of Prussia at the Upper Merion Middle School. This will take place from March 24th and 25th, and once again the stage will be ablaze with our spectacular choreography and talented performers. Inferno Dance is in its ninth year of production, and features dancers from the age of 4 through 19. Categories include, solos, trios, small groups (4-9 dancers), large group (10-19 dancers), lines and productions (both 20 or more dancers). Genres include ballet, contemporary, jazz, lyrical, modern, hip-hop, character, musical theater and acrobatic dance.
There are typically about 4,000 – 5,000 group dancers at each of the competitions. Hundreds of soloists, and hundreds more duo/trio performers. All of the above will be competing for the coveted “Platinum Awards” and the one and only highest school and entry!
Wishing all of these hard-working and dedicated dancers a great showing for both of these exciting events! We know that no matter what the outcome, it’s all about the journey and the personal growth that drive us. The path we are all taking together is one of the things that makes our Debra Sparks Dance Works family so special.
Now let’s do this…. Go DSDW!!!
